The signage is up, the new pavers are in, the landscaping is done… and final interior touches are being completed at the upcoming Jose Tejas Mt Laurel Mexican Restaurant, on Route 73.
I stopped in yesterday and caught up with the Construction Manager for Jose Tejas who tells me things are moving along great and they are targeting a mid-December opening.
During my visit yesterday there were over 20 construction vehicles at the site. All the final trades work coming together ahead of the opening.
They are actively hiring for all positions, and you can apply online directly at their website. (More below).
For the upcoming Mt Laurel location, Jose Tejas is taking over a building on Rt 73 at Crawford Place directly in front of the Hampton Inn. The building was the original Rt 73 Chili’s location (before Chili’s relocated a mile away).
On the inside of the restaurant I am told they are basically construction complete and right now are in the process of refinishing all the hardwood floors. The Jose Tejas team was willing to give me a look at the remodeled interior, but really couldn’t have me walking through this week.
But that’s still a really good sign of the progress… to protect the floor from any potential damage during construction, it makes sense that it would be one of the last things to be done!
Similarly don’t be fooled by the temporary plywood front doors.
For similar reasons of wanting to the protect the doors as they move a lot of equipment in and out, the permanent doors are one of the last things to be put on. Might as well wait for the floors to be finished and then all the tables, chairs and other final equipment are brought in, before installing the doors.
Overall the facility looks amazing outside!
I timed my visit almost perfectly as several elements were just completed.
A new parking lot top coat was being applied as I was there. The front was completed and they were working on the back of the restaurant (still needs stripng)
As mentioned the new pavered sidewalk is completed and looks amazing. It really adds to the “Tex-Mex” design esthetic that they’ve also given to the building.
The landscaping work was finishing up. Fresh bright green sod grass was in place, dark mulch.. and the plantings were freshened up.
Of course the building looks amazing and all new windows are installed. They’ve added some rustic Texas vibe to the place.
And the big bonus during my visit was the signage is up on the building and along the Rt 73 entrance!
Funny thing about this though is they had all signs covered in plastic to protect ahead of opening, and also so customers didn’t think they were opened. Well during my visit this week the wind was wiping so strong it pulled the plastic covering off of the main sign. Snap!

Jose Tejas and Border Cafe
For those of you not aware, Jose Tejas is a Northeast based Tex-Mex style restaurant which started in Massachusetts’ Harvard Square as Border Cafe. They have developed a very loyal following.
Today they have 5 locations of Jose Tejas and Border Cafe, with 2 of them in North Jersey and one in Christiana Delaware.

I’ve been getting a lot of inquiries on the status of the restaurant… it seems they have a LOT of fans who have tried them in other locations and loved the experience, and are excited they don’t have to drive as far!
