Mt Laurel’s Funplex amusement center and water park is moving fast on construction of a unique dual-branded Hotel directly next to the popular family entertainment destination.
I recently visited the site twice… two months ago all that stood were concrete block stairwells, and in my return visit a week ago I was amazed to see how much of the hotel framing was completed!
While I am not a construction expert, it appears that with the progress they are making they should make their Spring/Summer 2023 opening target… but we’re still a year away so things can change!
Funplex Mt Laurel is a large and growing family & friend entertainment destination, featuring a wide variety of attractions including a water park, amusement rides, laser tag.. and a bowling alley!
The Funplex family is growing fast… they now have a second New Jersey location in New Hanover (North Jersey), and in 2021 they added a third location with the opening of a Funplex park in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina!
But they haven’t stopped there, branching out into new entertainment avenues having recently purchased the Woodcrest Country Club in Cherry Hill.

Funplex Hotels: Hawthorn Suites & La Quinta Del Sol
Funplex Mt Laurel started small in 1997 as a mini-golf course and batting cages.
As mentioned they have grown into a full amusement and water park, featuring rides, laser tag, arcade, go-karts, bumper boats, bowling alley, private party rooms and more!
In 2021 Funplex completed a $4 million investment to increase the Mt Laurel waterpark by 50%!
Back in February 2020 42Freeway reported that Mt. Laurel’s Funplex was heading to the Planning Board looking for approval to add a new hotel building to the property.
This wasn’t their first attempt to develop a hotel at Funplex, as back in 2012 they were approved for a hotel and additional amenities including retail.
The new effort for the hotel approval and development unfortunately ended up being timed just as Covid was making itself known to the US. While we don’t know all of the details for the approval timing, it was a year later in Spring 2021 that the Funplex hotel project was approved.
In the final approval, 57 rooms will be Hawthorn Suite rooms with kitchens, targeted towards extended stays.
The remaining 68 rooms will be La Quinta’s Del Sol prototype. Del Sol refers to their most recent design for the public spaces, which is a move away from the previous more urban-modern look.
The La Quinta brand is considered an upper midscale brand which also appeals to business travelers.
A fall press release states that the dual-brand concept by Wyndham hotels is very new. While there are two different hotels in the building they will benefit from a shared lobby, modern great room, fitness center, bar and other amenities
Funplex absolutely wants the rooms to be utilized by families visiting the amusement center next door. But they are also well aware of the location in the middle of a core South Jersey business area and expect to provide rooms for business travelers.
Funplex was able to secure a liquor license which will enable them to serve alcohol at the park in addition to the hotel!
The press release
We will be providing more updates as it gets closer to opening day, and we also plan on reaching out to the Legacy Club at Woodcrest to check out their upgrades and plans!
